Racice, Prague – Candidate City to host ICF Canoe Sprint World Championship 2015

Czech Canoe union is one of four National Federations from different corners of Europe which have stated their intent to bid for the ICF’s biggest events - the Canoe Sprint World Championships in 2015. The other countries are Germany, Portugal  and Italy.

Candidates that submitted bid document will be invited to present their bid in front of the ICF Board of Directors on 15th April 2011 in Paris, France.

Organised canoeing in the Czech Republic has a more than 100-year history (founded on 29. 11. 1913). Over these Czech canoeists have earned many gold Olympic and World Championship medals. The very successful 1^st European Championship, which was organised in the Czech Republic in 1933, has helped get canoeing on the program of the Olympic Games. The Czech Canoe Union was among the first five federations to establish ICF, and Czech representative Dr. Popl was the president of ICF from 1954–60. Despite the fact that Czech trainers and athletes have significantly influenced world canoeing, in the past the World Championship occurred here only once, in 1958, and it was one of the best organised and most attended championships by competitors and spectators.

The Czech Canoe Union’s concept is to organise an excellent Championship based on one of the best venue in the world with first rate technical equipment along with a highly experienced and proven organizing committee and staff in a very friendly atmosphere. Prague and Račice are in the heart of Europe, easily accessible by all types of transport. They offer not only a top sports venue but also the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Nearby are a multitude of sightseeing locations, many of which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List
